About Us

The Tennessee AFL-CIO Labor Council represents approximately 37 international unions, 273 different local unions and affiliations with a membership of over 60,000 Tennesseans. Many different unions in the area fall under our umbrella. These locals are the true heart of the movement, partnering with state and community organizations and conducting campaigns at all levels of government to improve life for working families.

The state federation also serves as the voice of working families at the legislature—lobbying for workers’ compensation, unemployment insurance, an increased minimum wage, and other worker-friendly policies to encourage a greater quality of life for all Tennesseans. We also support our Central Labor Councils and other affiliated groups in their local work when needed.

To have a voice on the job, we believe that working families need to stand together in solidarity. The strength of unions lets them speak out about improvements that need to be made, including safer working conditions and better wages. This ultimately creates communities with better standards of living and strengths the middle class.
